Every “this changes everything” day has ancestors. Below is what followed each kind of day across the last 2.7 years of XRP's own tape — the base rates the morning-after narratives never quote. When the next big headline lands, check its family history here first.
| Event class | n | Next day (median) | Next week | Week up-rate | Next month | Month range (p10–p90) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Days XRP closed up 5%+ | 77 | -0.3% | +0.1% | 51% | -5.2% | -16.4% … +107.4% |
| Days XRP closed down 5%+ | 63 | +0.5% | +2.1% | 60% | -0.4% | -15.6% … +20.7% |
| Days up 3–5% | 79 | -0.1% | -0.9% | 41% | -7.2% | -17.9% … +10.7% |
| Days down 3–5% | 72 | +0.2% | -0.1% | 50% | -4.4% | -17.3% … +20.0% |
| Escrow-unlock days (the 1st of each month) | 32 | +0.9% | +1.7% | 56% | -3.8% | -17.0% … +30.1% |
Read the escrow row twice: the event everyone dreads each month has, historically, been a non-event — which is exactly why we track it as a calendar item, not a warning. And read the big-day rows honestly: momentum and mean-reversion both live in these numbers, and neither is strong enough to trade on without the bands.
Not all good news is the same kind of good news. A relief event removes a threat (a lawsuit ends) — no new buyer walks in the door. An access event opens a door that new money can walk through from that day forward (an ETF begins trading, a market gets legal rails). The receipts below say the difference is everything.
| XRP's own legal wins (relief) | Date | That day | 7 days on | 30 days on |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Final judgment — $125M penalty vs the $2B sought | 2024-08-07 | +18.6% | -5.2% | -13.2% |
| SEC drops its appeal (announced) | 2025-03-19 | +11.5% | -7.8% | -19.0% |
| Cross-appeals end — case fully over | 2025-08-07 | +11.0% | -7.2% | -15.4% |
Three legal wins, three identical shapes: a one-day pop, fully given back within a month. (The original July 2023 “XRP is not a security” ruling — before our data window — spiked roughly +70% intraday by public record and had fully retraced by that autumn. Zero for four.) The market had paid for the rumor; the news itself had no new buyers behind it.
The access-event precedent, measured: when the Bitcoin spot ETFs were approved (Jan 10, 2024, BTC $46,654), the first move was the same sell-the-news shape — -15.2% by 2024-01-22. At day 30 it sat at +1%, indistinguishable from the legal-win pattern. Then the flows arrived: +47.8% by day 60 and a new all-time high on day 63 (+56.6%). Gold tells the same story on a slower clock: its ETF era (GLD, 2004) repriced it over years, not weeks. Access events pay on the flows, not on the headline — which is why the ETF desk watches flows, not press releases.
| XRP's ignition episodes (its 6 biggest distinct days) | That day | Best level within 30 days |

| 2024-08-07 | +18.6% | 1.22× the pre-spike price |
| 2024-11-16 | +25.6% | 3.05× the pre-spike price |
| 2025-01-15 | +17.8% | 1.23× the pre-spike price |
| 2025-03-02 | +34.1% | 1.34× the pre-spike price |
| 2026-02-06 | +21.0% | 1.24× the pre-spike price |
Sources: XRP rows measured live from our own daily series; legal dates from the federal docket record; BTC path measured from Binance daily closes (Jan–Mar 2024), gold's ETF-era repricing is public record, stated approximately · samples are tiny (three legal wins, one crypto access event) — these are receipts, not laws · the conditional odds on the docket price the Clarity Act under each of these precedents by name.
From drawdowns like today's, the next 90 days medianed +17.3% (up 100% of the time; middle-80% range +17.3% to +17.3%, n=1). The one-year aftermath column stays empty until enough matched days age a full year — an empty sample prints no number here. That is neither a promise nor a warning — it is the base rate, which is more than any “is it over?” thread will give you. The cone on the front page prices the road from here.
Method note: matches are days whose drawdown from the running high sat within 5 points of today's, with overlapping windows — treat the sample as suggestive, not independent. This library grows teeth as our own market-events table accrues real, dated catalysts.
